The Coaches

Not people we
found on Google.

Every Just Curious cohort is taught by someone who has spent a decade or more doing the thing seriously — a world champion, the people who brought parkour to this city, the woman behind Mumbai's best-known dance academy.

We pick the teacher before we pick the activity. If we can't get someone worth learning from, we don't run it.

Dr. Rishi Prasad

Co-founder & Head Coach · Mumbai’s leading movement academy

📍 Andheri (W)

One of the people who brought parkour to Mumbai in the first place. Rishi co-founded Mumbai Parkour, then the Movement Academy — and he came to it from medicine, which is why his teaching starts with how a body actually loads, lands and absorbs force rather than with the impressive-looking stuff.

He built the academy's movement-science curriculum and designed its equipment. In practice that means the progressions you're put through are the same ones used with complete beginners, kids, corporate teams and Indian Army personnel — scaled to whoever is standing in front of him.

📍 Breach Candy · South Mumbai

Rishi's co-founder, and the one who runs the coaching system itself. Cyrus came to movement from research physics, and it shows in how he breaks a skill down — every vault and landing at the academy exists inside a structure someone argued about first.

He leads coaching, systems and technology across all five locations. If you're in South Mumbai, he's who you'll train with — the Breach Candy sessions run under him rather than out of Andheri.

Vishwajeet Shinde

Former international champion · Mumbai shooting coach

📍 Prabhadevi, Mumbai

A former international rifle shooting champion — and, more to the point, a coach whose students have gone considerably further than that. Shooters he has trained have gone on to compete at the Olympics.

What that means for a beginner is unglamorous and good: he is almost uninterested in your score for the first few sessions. Position first, then breathing, then the trigger release — because that is genuinely what the people who get good spend their time on, and the target takes care of itself afterwards.

It is far quieter and far more mental than anyone expects walking in. That’s the part that hooks people.

Worth saying plainly: most people never get near a coach at this level. This is the part of JCE that is genuinely hard to replicate on your own.

Carl Varel

Founder & Head Coach · a leading Mumbai BJJ academy

📍 Andheri (W)

A black belt under Prof. Olavo Abreu, and the 2023 World Masters Jiu-Jitsu champion in his division — alongside ADCC Pro India gold, an Asian medal and a national title. He's competed at the Carlson Gracie International, the AJP Grand Slam, and in superfights in Thailand and Malaysia.

He teaches both gi and no-gi, and WestBay is widely considered the serious gi academy in the city. The thing people notice first is how little of it is about strength — which is exactly why it works for beginners who assume they're not built for it.

Lillian Mendes

Founder · one of Mumbai’s best-known dance academies

📍 Mumbai

Lillian has been dancing and performing since she was fifteen, and founded one of Mumbai’s best-known dance academies — and became the name most associated with jive in this city. If you've seen social jive taught in Mumbai, there's a good chance the lineage runs back to her.

She taught the founders' batch, and she's the teacher we're building the dance track with. Her argument — and it's a convincing one — is that the people who insist they can't dance are usually about two hours away from discovering otherwise.
